Local Lore

I live in a part of Kansas City know for it's mix of modern architecture, historic Kansas City fabric, and mostly hispanic population. Aside from some freakin' awesome food, sometimes universes collide...

Update: The urban chicken movement (fad) is hot in Kansas City. Been going on in the Westside though for a long time.

Eddy:

Missouri is a funny place. This linked photo is from my dad's home town "deepindaOzarks", taken this year.

Better not speed in this town.

Thank you for not saying that Kansas City is in Kansas. I don't know why no one can get that one straight. Missouri hosts other great town names like, Nevada (pronounced Ne-vade-a), Lebanon, and Versailles (pronounced Ver-sell-es).

Nice pic, btw.

I bet that the missing chicken is in Kansas City, Kansas, rather than the more stately city across the Missouri River. Also, more 'Cops' episodes are filmed on the Kansas side.

My mistake. The picture was taken on Summit Drive, and Bartle Hall's in the background, placing it just west of downtown KC, MO. Not a good place to raise chickens, in MHO.

Eddy: I always heard Versailles was "Ver-sales" (at least when I lived in the suburban metropolis of Knob Noster) Don't forget that Missouri has California, Mexico, Paris, Rome, Houston, Milan (actually My-Lun)

And of course, Peculiar, Tightwad, Auxvasse (Ox-Voss-ee)

What cracks me about KCMO and the metro is that all the numbered streets run East-West...except in KCK, where the number avenues run North-South. If you go north on Antioch from I-35 near Merriam Drive, you can be on the corner of 47th and 47th.

btw, is that photo by the Blue Bird?

yup. it's at the other end of the block from the BlueBird, facing downtown.
